Who the hell is Sarah Palin???
Should John McCain win in November and (God forbid) perish in office, the President of the United States will be…
• The former Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Population: 5,000,
• Nicknamed "Sarah Barracuda" by her high school basketball team,
• The runner-up in the 1984 Miss Alaska beauty pageant,
• Proud owner of a B.A. from the University of Idaho,
• The former chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission,
• The wife of the three-time champion of the world's longest snow machine race, the Iron Dog,
• Under investigation for having dismissed a top law enforcement official in her administration because he failed to fire a state trooper who went through a messy divorce with her sister,
• The governor of Alaska for a year and a half,
44-year old Sarah Palin

Impressive.
This is a blatant attempt to grab Hillary supporters and other women not sold yet on Obama. While not a bad strategy, Hillary supporters did not support her because she was a woman, they did because she was Hillary F*****g Clinton.
If American women just wanted to vote for a woman they would have voted for Geraldine Ferarro in 1984, which they didn’t. Her ticket with Walter Mondale won one state in a landslide loss to Ronald Reagan.
It goes unsaid that no one knows Palin. I couldn’t even load her official biography page online because every journalist and political junkie in North America was trying to load it at the same time today.
McCain’s campaign is also tossing out their argument of Obama being to inexperienced or risky with Palin’s presence.
Besides the woman angle, McCain is making an appeal to social conservatives, as Palin is one. She is pro-life and a lifetime NRA member. Something doesn’t feel right though, because believe me, those Americans who still believe women belong in the house aren’t liberals, they’re social conservatives.
Early spin from Republicans is that Palin is actually more experienced and accomplished than Obama, since she has executive experience and he only has legislative experience.
This is laughable. Let's run through their experience and accomplishments, shall we?
• She was good at basketball, he is still very good.
• She has her BA from UofIdaho, he has his BA from Columbia, and a law degree from Harvard where he was president of the Harvard Law Review
• In the 80s, she was a beauty queen while he was a community organizer.
• In the late 90s, she was mayor of a small town in Alaska while he was an Illinois State Senate representing part of South Chicago.
• For the last 2 years, she has been governor of Alaska (Population 600,000) and he has been a Senator from Illinois (Population 13,000,000)
• She beat Governor Murkowski (who had a 19% approval rating) in the 2006 Alaskan Republican gubernatorial primary, he beat a highly favored Clinton machine in the national Democratic primaries this year with millions of supporters and donors.
With this choice there is one capacity in which the selection of Palin as McCain’s running mate is a total success. Everyone, including obviously myself, is talking about it instead of talking about last night.
(added later) A friend from Hillary's campaign decided to go forward in time to the VP debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, and she brought back this wonderful quote of Biden channeling Lloyd Bentsen, the 1988 VP candidate:
"Governor, I served with Hillary Clinton: I knew Hillary Clinton; Hillary Clinton was a friend of mine. Governor, you're no Hillary Clinton."

I too have been puzzled and bewildered by McCain's decision to pick this unknown 'maverick' as his running mate. But then I started thinking about some of the 'pro's' of choosing her: she's young (appeal to the youngsters), she's a woman (the afformentioned Hillary types), she's a maverick with a record of reform (I actually saw McCain's political advisor say this on CNN with a straight face), she's pro life and pro guns (to appease those who tend to pronounce America 'Amurika'), she's got a kid goin to Iraq (take that Biden!), she comes from a state at the center of the oil drilling and environmental questions of the day (if she supports Alaskan drilling...then it MUST be ok!... right?), and for almost two years (two full years) she has been the *laugh* commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Clearly all this, plus the long list of other qualifications you mentioned, would make her totally capable of leading the world's most powerful nation (economically and militarily and arguably politically) currently embroiled in two wars and still looking for answers to Iran, North Korea (not totally done with) and now Russia. If McCain wins, move to a bunker in the mountains.
